Ho iniziato Four Years 1887-1891 di W. B. Yeats. Ad un certo punto Yeats descrive O. Wilde, che ammira, e riporta il dialogo intercorso tra i due su una scelta lessicale:
Yeats scrive: <‘Why do you change ‘sad’ to ‘melancholy’. He (Wilde) replied that he wanted a full sound at the close of his sentence, and I thought it no excuse and an example of the vague impressiveness that spoilt his writing for me.>
Non so di quale brano stessero parlando ovviamente, eppure credo che volere un suono pieno alla fine della frase equivalga a veicolare al meglio il significato della frase stessa. Illuminatemi!
