Nel 2004, la nota rivista musicale statunitense Rolling Stone pubblicò un articolo che elencava quelle che, secondo una giuria scelta dalla redazione della rivista e composta da musicisti, critici musicali ed esperti dell'industria discografica americana, erano le 500 migliori canzoni di tutti i tempi. La lista è simile alle altre redatte dalla stessa rivista dei 500 migliori album e dei 100 migliori chitarristi.
