I'm delighted to know that the column has generated some interesting discussion. Certainly, I wasn't suggesting that it's at all common for readers to be driven to violence by the media (whether it's books, films, etc.) But there are interesting questions -- perhaps especially for authors -- about the relationship between reality and drama when we are creating our stories.

For me, I don't like novels where the heroes are all good and the villains are all bad. The most interesting moral choices are often for the police, and you could argue they don't always make the right ones. Certainly, that's true in my books. But the "right" choice is not always the moral one, perhaps.

I realise that when I read IMMORAL. Rachel was the victim but she wasn't a saint!!Usually, the authors turn the victim as an angel one and sometimes it happened to reality too, and in my opinion, as a matter of fact, it's not the way it goes.

Maybe, is this one of the many features I like in your novels??Yes, of course. You write very well. Violence, sex and mystery are interesting mix (when I read your books, it seems I'm in there, living the situation you write) and fortunately the end is always good, I can be sad for many days if the end of the book is not positive.

I may tug at the heartstrings from time to time (wait until book four!) but hopefully in a good way.

I did a presentation at a Minneapolis library last night, and as a result of that event, I've been invited to participate in a book group discussion at a women's prison sometime soon....that ought to be an interesting experience.

Sono felice di sapere che l'articolo ha generato una discussione interessante. Di certo non stavo dicendo che è comune che i lettori siano spinti alla violenza dai media (libri, film etc...). Ma ci sono domande interessanti, forse in particolare per gli autori, circa le relazioni tra dramma e realtà quando creiamo le nostre storie.

Personalmente non amo i racconti dove gli eroi sono tutti buoni e la gente comune è cattiva. Le scelte morali più interessanti spettano spesso alla polizia, e vi accorgerete che non sempre i poliziotti fanno le scelte giuste. Questo è sicuraente vero nei miei libri. Spesso però la scelta giusta non è quella più etica, forse.

Mi sono accorta leggendo IMMORAL che Rachel era la vittima, ma non era una santa! Di solito gli autori fanno diventare le vittime come degli angeli e qualche volta accade anche nella realtà, e secondo me le cose in realtà non stanno così.

Forse questa è una delle caratteristiche che amo di più nei tuoi romanzi. Scrivi molto bene. Violenza, senso e mistero sono un mix interessante (quando leggo i tuoi libri mi sembra di essere là, a vivere la situazione che scrivi) e per fortuna il finale è sempre lieto,... potrei rattristarmi per giorni se non lo fosse!

ho passato un paio di mesi in inghilterra, due mesi a minneapolis e 7 mesi a chicago per lavoro. ma mi sembra che il tuo inglese sia ad un livello decisamente superiore!

Ambra, yes, I've thought about a stand-alone book and/or the idea of launching a different series. I'm sure I will do so sometime soon. Books four and five will feature Stride, but at this point, I anticipate probably doing something with new characters in the sixth book.

I received some great news over the weekend. LAS VEGAS BABY (called STRIPPED in English) hit the national paperback bestseller list in Canada. My first time. So that makes me an "international bestselling author."

Ambra, sì, ho pensato ad un libro autonomo e/o all'idea di lancio della serie differente. Sono sicuro che farò così un momento presto. I libri quattro e cinque caratterizzeranno il progresso, ma a questo punto, prevedo probabilmente fare qualcosa con i nuovi caratteri nel sesto libro.
